PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for position control for a shifter, capable of simply, easily and inexpensively controlling the shifter of the coke oven at high accuracy.SOLUTION: A device for position control is provided with: a Doppler velocimeter 20 which is installed to a shifter 4 for a coke oven, irradiates a rail face 10a with laser beams, and measures the traveling speed of the shifter 4 by converting the frequency change of a scattered light reflected on the rail face into the speed; a sequencer 30 detecting the position of the shifter 4 by serially integrating the measured value of the traveling speed measured by the Doppler velocimeter 20 to obtain the moving distance of the shifter 4 from its reference position; and a traveling controller moving the shifter 4 to a position meeting a previously set operation based on the position detected by the sequencer 30. |
