PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device comprising a touch sensor capable of accurately detecting the presence or absence of touch and a touch position, and a method for driving the display device.SOLUTION: A display device comprises: electro-optical material 2 disposed between first and second planes facing each other; a first substrate A10 disposed on the first plane and comprising a conductor 40 to afford an electrical signal to the electro-optical material 2; a first electrically conductive film A12 disposed on the second plane to afford an electrical signal to the electro-optical material 2; a second electrically conductive film B14 disposed outside an area sandwiched between the first and second planes; a current detection circuit 13 for detecting current on the second electrically conductive film B14; and a control circuit 30 for, over a period in which the current is detected by the current detection circuit 13, applying substantially the same voltage as that applied to the second electrically conductive film B14 to one of the conductor 40 and the first electrically conductive film A12, which is disposed more proximate to the second electrically conductive film B14, and setting the other in a floating state, or applying substantially the same voltage as that applied to the second electrically conductive film B14 to both the conductor 40 and the first electrically conductive film A12. |
