PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent decline of contrast by holding maximum luminance even if a display element deteriorates.SOLUTION: An image display device displays display data on a display unit 2 by using: a pixel control unit 11 which controls a display element 10 according to the display data by using a voltage source 9 for display; and a display control part 3 which supplies the display data to the pixel control part 11. A state of the display element 10 is detected and the display data is corrected. Voltage of the voltage source 9 for the display is previously set to constant voltage which is a little higher, and gradation of the display data is gradually increased according to a deterioration state of the display element 10, thereby the display data can be displayed while maintaining the maximum luminance even if the display element 10 deteriorates. Contrast is maintained by correcting the gradation of the display data through only digital operation.
