PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overhead type image reading device capable of suppressing a stimulus on the eyes of a user.SOLUTION: An overhead type image reading device includes: an imaging unit that photographs a reading medium mounted on a mounting surface from above; and a light source that is arranged to be capable of irradiating the reading medium with light during photographing by the imaging unit, and gradually changes the amount of light of the light source at at least one of the time of lighting of the light source (S2) and the time of turning off the light source (S5). The overhead type image reading device may be configured to gradually change the amount of light by performing duty control of a current to be supplied to the light source.
