The present invention relates to an air conditioner including at least one outdoor unit with a compressor and an outdoor heat exchanger and at least one indoor unit with an expansion valve and an indoor heat exchanger. The outdoor unit includes: a cabinet including an internal receiving space and at least one air intake and air vent; the at least one outdoor heat exchanger installed in the air intake of the cabinet; a blast fan installed in the cabinet, sucking air through the at least one air intake, and discharging the sucked air through the air vent; and at least one hood installed in an outer surface of the cabinet and covering a top surface and a front surface of at least one of the air intakes. A connection passage with an air intake unit connected to the air vent is formed in the at least one hood separately. The total cross sectional area of the air intake unit is smaller than the total area of an exposed surface of the outdoor heat exchanger facing an outer side of the cabinet of the outdoor heat exchangers.
