PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to accurately identify a paper space region candidate correctly indicating a boundary of a region from an image of the area which has been picked up even in an environment of a non-uniform background.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: input means that inputs a region composed by a plurality of segments as a region candidate; output means that outputs first information indicating a relation between image feature quantities on both sides across each of the segments composing the region candidate as a boundary in a plurality of regions equal to or smaller than a predetermined magnitude on each segment; and identification means that identifies the region candidate as a region of interest using the first information corresponding to the respective regions, thereby making it possible to accurately identify a paper space region correctly indicating a boundary of the region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
