PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle axle number detector and a vehicle type discrimination device which can accurately operate axle number detection even when the detection level of a step board is deteriorated, and realize longer life of the step board.SOLUTION: A vehicle axle number detector comprises: a step board embedded in a road allowing a vehicle to travel thereon; first determination means which determines whether or not the detection level of a step board is an ON threshold or more; second determination means which determines whether or not the detection level is between the ON threshold and an OFF threshold when the detection level is below the ON threshold in the determination result of the first determination means; threshold update means which updates the ON threshold and the Off threshold on the basis of a detection level when the detection level is between the ON threshold and the OFF threshold in the determination result of the second determination means; abnormality notification means which notifies of abnormality when the detection level is not between the ON threshold and the OFF threshold in the determination result of the second determination means; and axle number counting means which counts up an axle counter when the detection level is the ON threshold or more in the determination result of the first determination means or between the ON threshold and the OFF threshold in the determination result of the second determination means. |
