Brake system has a brake force control device for forming wheel brakes as friction brakes. A device is used for avoiding brake groan in the standstill and low speed of the motor vehicle. The total brake moment is applied either by the front axle or by the rear axle after a first time standstill condition of the vehicle, An independent claim is also included for method for the avoidance of the brake groan by regulated deceleration of a motor vehicle.
