Electrodes; electrolytes. - A secondary cell having a zinc cathode is provided with an electrolyte containing halogens in excess of the quantity of zinc deposited during charge, so that on discharge the zine is entirely removed from the support. The latter may consist of a silicon iron alloy the surface of which is either polished or roughened and covered with mercury. The electrolvte mav consist of a solution of zinc chloride, and zinc bromide. The second electrode may consist of an unattackable conductor surrounded by graphite or carbon granules held in place by a tungsten wire or a sleeve of asbestos; &c. A small quantity of free bromine may be added to the granules. Specification 320,916 is referred to. |
