A method of supporting a workpiece (110) on a fixture (100), the workpiece (110) having a first surface (112) and an opposite second surface (114), and an aperture (116) positioned at a centre of the first surface (112) and extending from the first surface (112) to the second surface (114), the fixture (100) having a first end (122), an opposite second end (124), and a centre portion (126), the centre portion (126) comprising a supporting surface (142), the second end (124) being adapted to be mounted in a lathe, the supporting surface (142) comprising an annular recess (146), the annular recess (146) accommodating a supporting medium (148), the second surface (114) of the workpiece (110) being in intimate contact with the supporting medium (148), the method comprising the steps of:
(i) mounting the fixture (110) in the lathe,;
(ii) locating the aperture (116) on the first end (122) of the fixture (100); and
(iii) securing the workpiece (110) on the fixture (100), with the second surface (114) of the workpiece (110) being coplanar with the supporting surface (142) of the fixture (100). |
