<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize accurate adjustment of document reading finishing timing even when not having a dedicated adjusting document for adjusting the document reading finishing timing in a sub-scanning direction on a document reading apparatus at the time of automatic document feeding. <P>SOLUTION: An adjusting document is formed by forming an image on recording paper, and a calculation part 103 calculates an error between the adjusting document read by a document reading part 5 and an adjusting basic image. A control part 101 causes reading of the adjusting document by the document reading part 5 to be finished at a position before a document rear end part by a predetermined area. A correction part 104 corrects the image of the adjusting document obtained by reading using the calculated error and a deviation amount calculation part 105 calculates a deviation amount of image rear portions of an image of the adjusting document after correction and the adjusting basic image located to an upstream position of the document rear part by the above predetermined area.
