Catheter hub assembly with separable needle retracting assembly

A catheter assembly comprises a hub assembly with catheter 2 and a releasably attached needle retracting device 5 which may be actuated by rotating a cap 23 to retract a spring biased projecting needle and allow detachment from the hub assembly. The needle retaining device 5 comprises a base 24 with chassis 20 supporting a slider 21 carrying the needle and which is moveable away from the base 24 to shield the needle by the chassis and also enabling movable locking members 33 on the chassis to be free to disengage from cooperating locking surfaces on the base 24 and so allow the needle retracting device to disengage from the hub assembly.
