The method involves providing an inverter (10) with controllable switches, where the inverter includes multiphase electric voltage and multiphase electric current (IU, IV, IW) to be provided to an electric machine (14). Switching states of the switches are established and a base voltage space vector is formed to provide the voltage in the form of a voltage space vector. The voltage space vector in an angular region is formed around the base voltage space vector by a combination of the switching states corresponding to the base voltage space vector that is formed outside of the angular region.
