The method involves receiving a wireless signal, identifying a noise contribution to the wireless signal by dividing the received wireless signal into a sub-space that comprises data and control or control signal contribution, and a subspace which is orthogonal to another subspace and comprises a noise signal contribution and no data and control or control signal contribution. The noise power is estimated by using power estimates of subspaces. The division is performed using singular value decomposition analysis. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) wireless communication apparatus; (2) a computer program product of estimating noise power; and (3) a wireless communication system.
