Cross-heads etc.; cylinders.-A refrigerating compressor for carbon dioxide comprises a solid drawn steel tube f attached to a base a formed of a hollowed ingot, and forming a guide for the trunk cross-head p and housing the compressor cylinder or liner i which rests on a shoulder h. The cover n is removable, allowing the motion work to be removed without breaking pipe connections. The cover is secured by semi-circular flanges 4 housed in an external groove of the tube f and carrying studs or bolts extending through the cover; the flanges are retained by a loose flanged ring 5. Gas is introduced by ports 8 and a valve s in the piston, operated from a cam surface on the connecting-rod; at the end of the stroke a second supply is introduced through ports 10, 13; delivery takes place through valves o mounted in the spring-pressed false head, and a port 14. |
