The method involves operating a clutch unit (14) depending on a variable i.e. desired clutch torque, and depending on operating variables that characterize an operating mode of a motor car (10) and/or a combustion engine (12) and/or an automated gearbox (16), where the desired clutch torque characterizes a position of clutch pedals (36). A gradient of the desired clutch torque is determined based on determined desired clutch torque. A current maximum permissible gradient of the desired clutch torque is determined from the current operating variables. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a control and/or regulating device (2) a computer program comprising a set of instructions for performing a method for operating a motor car.
