The method involves triggering a spark moment of an electric arc. A strategy of adaptation is performed under consideration of a mode (R) of an internal combustion engine, a filling level (TR) of the engine, temperature (TE) of exhaust gas and an ethanol level contained in a mixture to determine a steering wheel rotation angle (A), which separates the spark moment from a passage moment in a top dead center of a piston constituting the engine. A cylinder is equipped with an inlet valve that controls a supply of mixture inside a combustion chamber. An independent claim is also included for a monitoring system.
