Supplying consuming devices.-In supplying alternating current of 15-100 periods per second and of over 500 volts by means of a transformer b to a single glow-discharge tube h of the type having internal electrodes and giving positivecolumn light, or to a number of tubes of this type arranged in series, a choking-coil i separate from the transformer is connected in the secondary circuit and produces a strong ignition surge as well as serving as a steadying impedance. Reliable ignition of tubes in aerodromes and misty places is thus ensured or the voltage of the transformer can be reduced. The secondary e of the transformer is earthed and an excess-voltage cut-out d comprising two metal plates is connected to the primary circuit. Prior arrangements with discharge tubes supplied in parallel from the secondary circuit and with choking-coils in series with the tubes to compensate for their length are referred to.
