Supplying consuming devices.-In systems for supplying luminous electric discharge tubes with alternating current of over 500 volts and of 15 to 100 periods per second, an inductive or ohmic impedance and a capacity are inserted in series in the main primary circuit of the supply transformer or in series in the main secondary circuit or one in the primary and one in the secondary circuit. On account of the charging and discharging of the condenser, reliable ignition of the tube is ensured in aerodromes and misty places or the voltage of the transformer may be reduced. If a stray-field transformer e, with coils side by side and relatively adjustable or separated by a metal sheet, is used, the inductance is dispensed with, the condenser c being at least 2 or 0.1 microfarads according as it is in the primary or secondary circuit and being several times larger than the capacity necessary for compensating for the phase-displacement due to the leakage of the transformer. In both forms, the condenser may be short-circuited after the tube has started. Specifications 210,053 and 239,826 are referred to. |
