592605 Disclosed is a hand tool for safely and accurately cutting an access window in the sheath on an optical cable without cutting the fibres inside. The tool comprises a first arm and a second arm, wherein the first and second arms are hinged at a pivot axis so that, for each of the first and second arms, an handle and a jaw, respectively, is provided. A first jaw head and a second jaw head are connected to the jaws of the first and second arms and a first cutting device is rigidly connected to the first jaw head and a second cutting device is rigidly connected to the second jaw head for cutting a window in the sheath of the cable when the handles are rotated to a closing configuration. A first backing device and a second backing device are configured for backing the cable when the window is cut in the sheath, wherein the first backing device is rotatably connected to the first jaw head and wherein the second backing device is rotatably connected to the second jaw head. The first and second backing devices are configured for engaging the cable from a side which is substantially opposite to the cut window in the sheath. |
