The method involves associating a value of an electric energy consumption parameter (E1) with each of network interfaces (Ii) of nodes (A) depending on transmission technology used by the network interface. A routing path (Popt) is selected (B) according to an electric energy consumption optimizing criterion by using the values of electric energy consumption parameter associated with the network interfaces. An electric energy consumption value determined from the values of the electric energy consumption parameter is associated with each of a set of potential routing paths. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising code instructions for implementing a method for selecting a routing path for a data flow in communication network (2) a device for selecting a routing path for a data flow in a communication network (3) a communication network.
