PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coating cutting tool having excellent wear resistance by forming an aluminum nitride layer as an outermost layer of coating.SOLUTION: A surface coating cutting tool includes a substrate and coating formed on the substrate. In the surface coating cutting tool, the coating is a physical vapor deposition film and includes: a nitride layer of a thickness of 7-15 μm formed on the substrate; a carbonitride layer of a thickness of 3-10 μm formed on the nitride layer; and an AlN layer of a thickness of 0.2-5 μm formed on the carbonitride layer.
