PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical modulator that prevents element degradation and suppresses wavelength dependence of light output characteristics.SOLUTION: An optical modulator 10 includes a substrate 12, an optical waveguide 14 formed on the substrate 12 and having a core layer 13, and a heater electrode 17 formed along the optical waveguide 14 and controlling temperature of the core layer 13. The optical modulator 10 varies an application voltage V of the heater electrode 17 according to the wavelength of input light, to operate at a low drive voltage without depending on the wavelength. |
