PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially more advantageous method for purifying furfural than conventional methods by stably and efficiently distilling a raw material furfural while suppressing generation of solid matter to obtain high purity furfural, thereby producing furan by decarbonylation reaction of the obtained high purity furfural.SOLUTION: A purification method of furfural to obtain purified furfural by distillation of a raw material furfural is characterized in that the distillation is carried out in the presence of a basic substance.
