PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an ink discharge failure or ink color mixing caused by preliminary discharge operation executed with the ink discharge surface of a recording head capped.SOLUTION: In a recording device which performs recording by discharging ink from an ink jet recording head configured such that a plurality of nozzle rows comprising a plurality of nozzles are arranged in a direction different from a direction of the array of the plurality of nozzles, the following preliminary discharge control is executed. At first, a cap including a suction port for suction of ink and an air communication port communicating with air caps an ink discharge surface of the ink jet recording head. Then, a suction recovery mean for performing suction recovery by sucking ink from the plurality of nozzles is driven, thereby performing preliminary discharge for nozzles, among the nozzles of the nozzle rows, with a long distance to a straight line connecting the suction port with the air communication port before preliminary discharge for nozzles with a short distance thereto. |
