The method involves depositing the soot components partially at a surface limiting a combustion chamber (12) of an internal combustion engine. The deposited soot components has a size less than 23 nanometer, particularly less than 10 nanometer. The soot components are deposited at a piston bottom of the internal combustion engine and afterwards regenerated by an engine combustion in the combustion chamber. An independent claim is included for an internal combustion engine with a grid.
