The method involves applying a flame to a sample of a solid wood at a surface for a preset time under preset conditions. A parameter relevant for a fire behavior of the solid wood is determined. A surface of the flamed sample and/or a surface of another sample of the same solid wood is removed. An unexposed surface is applied with the flame for another preset time under other preset conditions. Another parameter relevant for the fire behavior is determined. The samples are vertically arranged relative to each other, and provided with same dimensions.
