The method involves providing an induction machine (3) in an operating mode such that a phase of the induction machine relative to other phases of the induction machine achieves high load experiences in the operating mode. Unmodulated reference values (IsdRef, IsqRef) are represented as default values (IsdRefN, IsqRefN) i.e. current reference values, and the reference values are modulated and represented as modulated default values i.e. current reference values, for regulation to a demanded rotational torque of the induction machine within an electrical period. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for operating an induction machine (2) a drive system.
