<p>Provided are: a nematic liquid crystal composition which has a negative dielectric anisotropy with an absolute value of 2-8 at 25°C, and which contains one or more antioxidants and one or more liquid crystal compounds in an amount of 3% or more, said liquid crystal compounds having a negative dielectric anisotropy with an absolute value of 4 or more; and a liquid crystal display element which uses the nematic liquid crystal composition. The present invention provides a liquid crystal composition having a negative dielectric anisotropy (∆epsilon), which has a liquid crystal phase of a wide temperature range, low viscosity, good solubility at low temperatures, high resistivity, high voltage holding ratio, stability with respect to heat, and stability with respect to light. Consequently, a fast-response liquid crystal display element of VA type, PSVA type or the like, which has excellent display quality and is not susceptible to display defects such as dropping marks and linear afterimages, can be achieved by using this liquid crystal composition.</p> |
