PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of an internal combustion engine which can enhance acceleration performance at abrupt acceleration of the internal combustion engine having a supercharger, cylinder injection valve and variable valve mechanism.SOLUTION: A control device 12 of an internal combustion engine has an acceleration request determining part 70 and acceleration level determining part 72 for comparing a detected value of variation speed of an accelerator opening with a first threshold and a second threshold bigger than the first threshold, and a valve timing control part 74 for increasing a valve overlap period by changing closing timing of an exhaust valve 35 and opening timing of a suction valve 34 at a first variation rate by an exhaust VVT mechanism 39 and suction VVT mechanism 38 in a first case where the detected value is not less than the first threshold and less than the second threshold and by changing the closing timing of the exhaust valve 35 and opening timing of the suction valve 34 at a second variation rate bigger than the first variation rate by an exhaust VVT mechanism 39 and suction VVT mechanism 38 in a second case where the detected value is not less than a threshold for acceleration level determination.
