摘要 <p>A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal cell (LC) in which a liquid crystal layer (10) is provided between two glass substrates (12, 14) 0.5 mm thick or less, polarizing plates (16, 18) provided at both sides of the liquid crystal cell (LC), and a backlight (26) provided at the rear side of the liquid crystal cell (LC). The difference (D - H) between the contractile force D along the absorbing axis of the polarizing plate (16) provided at the front side of the liquid crystal cell (LC), the contractile force D being calculated by multiplying the dimensional change rate caused by humidity after a specified condition in the polarizing plate (16) at the front side by the elastic modulus and the thickness of the polarizing plate at the front side, and the contractile force H along the transmission axis of the polarizing plate (18) provided at the read side of the liquid crystal cell (LC), the contractile force H being calculated by multiplying the dimensional change rate caused by humidity after a specified condition in the polarizing plate (18) at the rear side by the elastic modulus and the thickness of the polarizing plate (18) at the rear side, is 365 × 10 N/m or less.</p>
