The invention relates to a method for cooling or heating a gaseous mixture, in which a gaseous mixture to be separated is cooled in a channel (23) of an exchange line (3), said channel being closed by a sealed-closing means at an intermediate level of the exchange line in order to form a first portion of the channel and a second portion of the channel on either side of the closing means, wherein the mixture is cooled in the first portion of the channel. The gaseous mixture cooled in the first portion of the channel is drawn from the exchange line at a first temperature and treated by treatment means (6) in order to produce a treated gas (9) enriched with a component of the gaseous mixture, and the treated gas is discharged from the treatment means at a second temperature and is cooled in the second portion of the channel of the exchange line in order to produce a cooled, treated gas.
