The glare shield device has a sun shield (4) and a transparent backlighting shield (8) arranged at the sun shield. A light detecting unit (3) for detecting a light intensity and a detection unit (6) for detecting a head position of a vehicle occupant associated to the sun shield are provided. The light detecting unit is connected with a control unit, which generates control signal depending on the detected light intensity and the head position. The control signal is fed to an actuator. The actuator automatically positions the sun shield for reducing a glare effect.
