A steering wheel production method in which damage to the external appearance of a steering wheel is prevented during production of a steering wheel comprising a coated section and a core bar-exposed section. The steering wheel (1) comprises: a core bar (10) having a step section (13); the coated section (20); and the exposed section (6). The coated section (20) comprises a coating material coating the core bar (10). The core bar (10) is exposed in the exposed section (6), without the core bar (10) being coated by the coating material. The step section (13) is formed along an edge section (23) of the coated section (20) adjacent to the exposed section (6), and from a floor surface (14) positioned on the edge section (23) side of the coated section (20) to the surface (6A) of the exposed section (6). An unnecessary section (25) that occurs in the edge section (23) of the coated section (20) during coating of the core bar (10) is cut off further on the coated section (20) side than the step section (13), and removed from the coated section (20).
