PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a structure which can constitute a drive unit for an electric vehicle assembled with a planetary gear type transmission 12b in a small size and light in weight, allows hig-efficiency traveling in both the progress and retreat of a vehicle, and can improve the convenience of the electric vehicle by elongating a traveling distance per charge.SOLUTION: A planetary gear type transmission 12b is constituted of a first planetary gear mechanism 16b of a single pinion type, and a second planetary gear mechanism 17 of a double pinion type. The power of first and second electric motors 10, 11 is transmitted to a driven-side rotating shaft 15 after being changed in speed at a desired speed change ratio. When a first carrier 19b is liable to rotate in a direction opposite to the rotation direction of a first rotating drive shaft 13, a two-way clutch 28 is arranged in a state of inhibiting the first carrier 19b to rotate with respect to a portion 27 fixed to a vehicle body, and when it rotates in the same direction, in a state of permitting the rotation of the first carrier 19b. |
