The unit has an injection piston (14) comprising a pressing rod (27) that is arranged coaxial to the injection piston and to a cylinder (1). Annular pistons (21) are displaceable in the cylinder and enclose a portion of the rod. A melt storage chamber (8) is formed in the cylinder and arranged between the annular and injection pistons. A supply device (33) is displaceable relative to the cylinder for supplying molten plastic into the storage chamber. A blockable transfer line (22) transfers the plastic from the storage chamber into an injection chamber (7).
