PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source distribution estimation apparatus capable of lowering a barrier caused by advance procedures such as preparation of an object and measurement of the reflection characteristic of an object in a scene regarding light source distribution estimation.SOLUTION: A light source distribution estimation apparatus includes: means for inputting a color image imaged by arranging a sphere in a scene; means for extracting an area image of the sphere from the input image; means for converting the acquired area image of the sphere into a gray scale area image of the sphere; means for acquiring gray scale light source distribution information from the acquired gray scale area image of the sphere; means for acquiring light source color information from the acquired area image of the sphere, the gray scale area image of the sphere and the gray scale light soure distribution information; and means for acquiring light source distribution information having RGB components from the acquired gray scale light source distribution information and light source color information.
