PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microscope capable of maintaining a focused state and observing or imaging an object to be observed with high imaging performance even when a specimen has a very soft structure or even when the object to be observed floats in a liquid.SOLUTION: An optical system has a microscope objective lens and an imaging lens arranged in this order from an object side to an image side, the imaging lens moving relative to the microscope objective lens so as to include a first state and a second state. The first state is the state that the optical axis of the microscope objective lens is on that of the imaging lens. The second state is the state that the optical axis of the microscope objective lens intersects with that of the imaging lens at a predetermined point.
