The method involves calculating an error correcting check sum on key (K) in register (R). The key or portion of key is corrected based on error-correcting check sum (CRC) and processor (P) is supplied. The calculation is performed with corrected key or partial key. The supply of key is provided as the key register at the beginning of a cryptographic calculation. An independent claim is included for an arrangement for carrying out cryptographic calculation of key in key register in processor.
