<p>A cable (1) for use in structural and civil engineering comprises a helical structure of a plurality of wires (4) that has a weather protection or an aesthetic finish, whilst still allowing inspection of the cable in situ. This is achieved by the provision of at least one translucent or transparent stripe (3) of no more than 4 times the radial depth of the sheath combined with transparent or translucent blocking material and lubricant within the opaque sections of the sheath (2). The sheath being applied with a cross headed extruder. The invention also provides a method of manufacturing, testing and inspecting the cable by visual, camera or instrument sensing change in colour and/or reflected energy.</p> |
