The barrel has an inner surface (16) including a cross-section matched to a paintball (4), and a spiral design, which extends over a part of a length of the barrel and provides twist to the paintball. A cross-sectional shape (17) of the inner surface deviates from a circular cross-section over a part of a length of a ball guide region (12). The spiral design is formed by a region (B) of a spiral twist of the cross-sectional shape. A deviation of the cross-sectional shape from the circular cross-section is increased over a part (A) of the length of the ball guide region.
