摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiple cylindrical steam reformer which is suitable as a fuel treatment device of a proton-exchange membrane fuel cell (PEFC). SOLUTION: A raw gas and water flow down spirally along a heat transfer accelerator 9a while being mixed at an upper part of a preheat layer 9. At that time, the heat (Q1) from a combustion exhaust gas and the heat (Q2) generated by a shift reaction are recovered. The mixed gas passed through the preheat layer 9 is introduced into a first heat exchange chamber 8a, and recovers heat (Q3) from the shift catalyst layer 7 side, thereby the evaporation of water in the mixed gas further proceeds. Although unevaporated liquid water is stored in a water trap part 8c at the lower end, where, recovery of heat (Q4) from a reformed gas before flowing in the shift catalyst layer 7 is performed, and the evaporation is accelerated. Thereby, the passage of the liquid water through a communication hole 10d is prevented. The mixed gas passed through the communication hole 10d recovers heat (Q5) from the combustion exhaust gas in a second heat exchange chamber 8b, further recovers heat (Q6) from a gas discharged from a reforming catalyst layer 6, thereby the temperature of the mixed gas is raised to about 400°C, and thereafter the mixed gas flows into the reforming catalyst layer 6.
