<p>The cross section of the top rail 104 comprises a pair of spaced first wall portions 204 each having a first edge portion 210 and a second edge portion 212. The first wall portions are coupled together by a second wall portion 202 which connects to each of the respective first edge portions. At least one of the first wall portions has an outwardly extending flange 206 extending from the second edge of the respective first wall portion, in some versions of the invention both first wall portions may have outwardly extending flanges. Preferably the first wall portions are parallel to each other and the flanges and the second wall portion are also parallel to each other and orthogonal or perpendicular to the first wall portions. In one version the first wall portions are different length but they may also be the same length. The bend radius RU of the connection between the second and first wall portions is preferably smaller than the bend radius RL of the connection between the first wall portion and the outwardly extending flange. The rail is preferably mounted on a stud 208 of a wall frame and the flanges used to support a floor member between stories of a building. Also claimed are a wall frame and building comprising the top rail and a method of assembling a frame with the top rail. The rail is preferably made from sheet steel by roll forming.</p> |
