[Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] In a centrifugal spinning or like machine in which, immediately the yarn is wound in the revolving holder, it is wound automatically on to a bobbin or the like inserted into the holder from below, the bobbin of a yarn holder of which the yarn has broken is brought into positional contact with the yarn mass in the holder to locate and recover the end of the yarn and is thereafter moved to the symmetrical position in the holder to wind up the yarn mass. As shown the bobbin 20 has a flanged metal cap 20A at its upper end provided with a peripheral rubber ring 20B and the bobbin peg 18 is pivoted in a bifurcated head 10B at the top of a spindle 10 slidably mounted and secured by a set screw 11A in a bracket 11 carried by a rock shaft 12 running longitudinally of the machine and supported at intervals by rack pillars 13 slidable in guides 14 and engaged by pinions 16 on a shaft 17. The yarn from the rollers 4 is led through a guide eye 23 at the top of a stationary tube 22 carried by a bracket 21 and disposed concentrically in the neck 7 of the yarn holder 8 and from the eye 23 the yarn passes down a tube 27 carried from the traverse rail 24 to a guide eye 28 at the end of the traverse tube and is wound in a mass Y2 inside the holder. The tube 27 has a longitudinal slot 29 to clear the bracket 21 and has a projecting lug 31 connected to a bracket 26 on the traverse rail by a link 33 having a depending pin 34 engaging a recess or aperture in the bracket 26. Should the yarn break during the spinning operation, the traverse tube is lifted from the bracket 26 and raised until an offset recess 30 at the lower end of the slot 29 can be engaged with the bracket 21 by slightly rotating the tube and hold the traverse tube in the elevated position. The set screw 11A is then unscrewed and the spindle 10 with the bobbin raised so that the bobbin is at the correct height in the yarn holder and the set screw 11A is tightened; the operator then presses down a trigger 19A projecting from the peg 18 so as to bring the rubber ring 20B lightly against the surface of the yarn mass Y2 for a short period, the rotation of the holder causing a few coils of yarn to be retarded and the winding on the bobbin initiated. The trigger 19A is then released and a spring 19B turns the bobbin to the vertical position for the complete transference of the mass Y2 to the bobbin after which the spindle 10 is lowered in the bracket 11 and the bobbin removed from the peg and replaced by an empty bobbin. To restart spinning in the holder, the traversing tube 27 is lowered until the eye 28 is below the bottom edge of the yarn holder and a short length of yarn is passed through the tube so that the end extends through the eye 28 and is caught by the pegs 36 at the edge of the holder; the tube is then raised and secured in the spinning position, the short length of yarn is pieced to the yarn being delivered by the roller 4 and spinning proceeds. |
