Various embodiments of the present invention relate to an apparatus and a method for a data processing system with retained sector reprocessing. For example, the present invention discloses the data processing system comprising: a data processor operable for processing data blocks, calculating the corresponding processed output data blocks and retaining the data blocks to be reprocessed as requested; and a scheduler operable for receiving a request for reprocessing retained data blocks, and starting a reprocessing operation within the data processor with respect to the retained data blocks.
