The method involves identifying a TV (7) by an equipment e.g. STB (1), via a bidirectional communication interface (L1) i.e. high definition multi-media interface (HDMI). A check code associated with the checking of the TV is obtained by the STB from a distant server (RS). The check code is transmitted from the STB to control a remote control device (STBRC) via another bidirectional communication interface such as Wireless Fidelity interface. The STB is connected to a communication network i.e. Internet. An independent claim is also included for a remote control device.
