The present invention discloses a lane departure warning system and a method. The lane departure warning system according to the invention includes a camera photographing the front of a vehicle, a tunnel recognizing module recognizing whether a current position of the vehicle is in a tunnel section by using an image taken by the camera, a virtual lane module generating a virtual lane corresponding to a lane by using a pre-calculated road width when one lane is recognized and confirming whether two or more lanes are recognized from the image when the position is in the tunnel section, and a determining/warning module warning when confirming the lane departure of the vehicle by using the lane or the recognized lanes.
