The device (2) has an electromechanical relay (14) that is controlled electromechanically against the force of a return spring, such that a connection between load contacts of relay is made for switching electrical load circuits (10,11) after activation of electrical control circuits (18,19) with a contact bridge at contact points. Detecting units (15,16) are adapted to determine the relay malfunction with contact bridge as a countermeasure, so that pulses (35) of control circuits are activated for appropriate free shaking of contact bridge to solution by aperture of load circuits. An independent claim is included for method for repairing an electromechanical relay with contact bridge.
