The method involves determining whether a motor car is traveling in a city or bicycling allowed location field (101) by a navigation system. An optical sensor is used to generate an image data of the motor car (102). Determination is made whether the motor car is separated from leading bicycle lane (103). Judgment is made whether the motor car is in the city or local area (104). Maximum speed limit value for the motor car is set. The navigation system is provided with a current position determination device of the motor car and a navigation data base. An independent claim is also included for a speed limit determining device.
