The method involves transmitting a warning signal (211) to a mobile unit by a vehicle, where the mobile unit is a mobile telephone, a smartphone, a notebook, or a tablet personal computer. The mobile unit is coupled with the vehicle over a short-range radio connection such as wireless local area network or Bluetooth. The warning signal is associated with an optical and/or audible warning (212) over an input interface of the mobile unit by a user.
